On many things that I build I've used the technique of gathering to add dimension/volume to things. I'd always liked it and had thought about somehow maximizing the use of it. While talking to a woman that was requesting a backpack I again thought of it. With backpacks, I'd never liked how it's four seams usually merged at the top of it. To avoid that I thought about this unique design.
