I made a leather vest that I put a large brass zipper on. It turned out very well. The part that didn't turn out very well was this picture that I took of it. Besides the focus and lighting for it - the zipper itself is not nearly as prominent as it appears to be in this picture. This thumbnail to the right links to a larger picture of it. These leather ties on the left are fastened with a bit of braiding.
The 'trick braids on the left have snaps on each end. The counter part goes on the vest like in the pictures below.
I've made several vests using 'D' rings for fasteners. Along with them snaps or leathers ties are used for the fasteners. I don't have a picture of them on an actual vest. This picture I took and sent it to a customer to describe how I it is done.
