 A top quality vest can be built with 4 oz. full grain moccasin cowhide leather. This braided leather construction also ensures that - those braided edges add lots of strength. I've built 100's of them - there are 55+ examples of them on my leather vests home page. 

 This vest has braided seams, edges, front and back yokes, and hip pockets. It also has the inside 'panel pockets' and a 'draft flap' on the back/bottom (like shown in the pictures) and four sets of snap closures.

This black moccasin cowhide leather vest has slanted front yokes, a pointed back yoke, two patch hip pockets (without flaps), and four sets of 'trick braided' leather snaps for closures. It also has the draft flap that so many of my customers have taken a liking to. This draft flap is a 3" extension of the back that can better be seen on the page that this picture is linked to.
Here is a picture of the back of this vest. It better shows the back yoke. and the 3" draft flap that it has.
And, this picture shows the 'panel pockets' that I sometimes put on my vests. They're quite large, taking up a good share of the front panel of the vest, and hold a variety of things.
